About Orkney Islands Council
Orkney Islands Council is a relatively new local authority established in 1975. It provides services such as environmental health and waste, roads, social work, community development, organisational development, economic development, building and trading standards, and education. The council is also the harbour authority for Orkney and the marine services division manages the operation of the islands’ 29 piers and harbours.
The council is responsible for meeting Scottish Housing Regulator requirements for the management of around 1,000 domestic properties.
