An opportunity has arisen for a Security Officer to join onsite team based at Worthing, West Sussex. Security Officer will be providing a ‘best in class’ front of house security service in Main Reception Area in line with Bellrock and Clients security and customer service standards.  Operate within the Alarm Monitoring Centre under the provisions of Security and Emergency Measures Direction (SEMD) which operates 24/7, 365 days a year.

Key Accountabilities

  • Monitoring of all CCTV cameras in the AMC
  • Interface and liaise with Resilience and Security employees co-located in the AMC
  • Allocation and checking of radios, keys, badges, phones and miscellaneous items held in the control room / reception area and liaising with employees, tenants and visitors to the site
  • Rotate duties and cover between manned guarding at Reception Area and AMC and be fully conversant with all procedures following appropriate training
  • Monitoring the access control and alarm software
  • Acknowledging and reporting site alarm activation
  • Liaise with third party providers such as contractors and other enforcement agencies
  • Be required to be competent in the use of IMEX alarm handling system and in-house alarm system following receipt of specific training
  • Provide copies on request to enforcement agencies
  • Liaise with and coordinate emergency services in response to alarms and incidents
  • Briefings with the outgoing security officer, to include handover notes on hard-copy (updated every 12 hours)
  • Investigate and / or reports hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances to Security Manager for correction or follow-up actions
  • Issuing of temporary badges to employees, contractors and visitors (mainly out of hours)
  • Frequent internal patrols of building during working hours to include checking of badge readers, fire doors and lighting, including an awareness of any potential H&S issues which will require reporting and resolving
  • External patrols to include car parks, bike racks and external damage to the building. May include coning off areas of the car park on an ad hoc basis
  • Cover Reception Area which will include answering telephone calls to take messages, answer questions and provide information during breaks and holiday and out of core Reception hours
  • Carry out additional duties will include but not limited to printer paper replenishment, meeting room equipment checks and preparation of rooms to required standards
  • Gritting of pathways and ad hoc litter picking whilst on external patrols
  • Housekeeping checks out of standard cleaning hours

Hours of Work

Shift pattern operation which consists of four 12-hour shifts, followed by six non-working days.  You will also be required to cover 30 additional 12-hour shifts (days or nights) during the holiday year which runs from 1 January to 31 December each year.  Average working hours per week are 40.5. Overtime may be required at various times to cover sickness and unplanned absences of other Security Officers.

Candidate Profile

  • Previous Security experience essential including experience of shift work
  • A strong knowledge of control room practice
  • The ability to remain calm, focused and articulate in emergency situations
  • Highly organised with a well-developed approach to prioritisation
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office packages)
  • Driving licence required (for external patrols of site in a company vehicle)
  • Current accreditation for SIA Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) and SIA Manned Guarding
  • Preferably hold current first aider certificate (training will be given if required)
  • A proactive approach to service delivery
  • Flexible and available at short notice
  • Polite, helpful and diligent, with a ‘can do’ ethos with strong interpersonal skills (verbal and written) to ensure that all relevant security information is passed to departments and employees adapting style and content for different audiences
  • Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail and a high level of personal presentation
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and demands
  • Previous knowledge of IMEX systems beneficial
In return Bellrock are offering a competitive salary. Working hours are Monday – Sunday based on 40.5 hours per week and 20 days holiday per year + bank holidays
